I Cloned a $50K/Month App in 30 Minutes With AI

This app went from zero to $50,000 per month in under a year. It climbed to number one in Lithuania, number three in the UK, and number 15 in the United States. It even won an award at the World Summit Awards.

But here's the crazy part — I just cloned it in 30 minutes using nothing but AI. And I'm about to prove it by building this exact app live using my six-step process to build any app using AI.

By the end of this guide, you will have a fully working app published and ready to start making money.

Why RatePunk Works

Before we start building, let's understand exactly what we're cloning and why it works. RatePunk is a cheap flight lookup and hotel booking tool that went from $0 to $50K MRR in under a year.

There are three criteria that every viral app follows — including RatePunk:

  1. They solve a common, frustrating problem. RatePunk solves the problem of overpaying for hotels. People hate feeling ripped off, so they use tools that save them money.
  2. They keep it simple. RatePunk's core functionality can be explained in three words. Users understand it immediately.
  3. They are shareable. When someone saves $200 on a hotel, they tell all of their friends. That's essentially free marketing.

Step 1: Create a Detailed Prompt

The first thing we need to do is create a detailed prompt to feed into our AI builder. Here's what most people don't realize — AI builders are like super-efficient workers, but they need crystal clear instructions. The better your prompt, the better your app.

We're going to use a tool called Braindumper that makes this dead simple — and it's completely free.

  1. Enter your basic idea for the app
  2. Choose the AI builder you're using (in this case, Base44)
  3. Click Generate Build Plan and wait a few seconds

Braindumper generates a detailed, comprehensive prompt that contains everything Base44 needs to start building the actual app.

Step 2: Feed the Prompt Into Base44

Head over to Base44, paste the prompt into the chat, and hit the generate button. Behind the scenes, Base44 is analyzing the prompt, breaking it down into components, designing the UI, writing the code, and setting up the database — all automatically.

This is work that would normally take a team of developers days. But we're getting it done in seconds.

And just like that — we have our first version. Any web developer will tell you that creating a page like this can easily take days of planning, design, and coding. And here we are with a solid app in just a few minutes.

Iteration 1: Improving the UI

First impressions matter. If your app looks generic or boring, users will leave before they even try it.

I'm going to tell Base44 to make my app look very similar to RatePunk because their design is proven to work. After a few minutes, the updated landing page looks great — but we can push it even further.

A few more tweaks — cool transition effects, smoother animations, a more modern font — and now the app looks a lot more premium and professional.

Keep in mind: we haven't written a single line of code so far.

Fixing the Dashboard

For the dashboard, I'm using Base44's image feature. Upload a design mockup of how you want the dashboard to look, add some text for guidance, and Base44 creates something very similar to the image while still being original.

Iteration 2: Adding Authentication

We need an auth system so only logged-in users can view the dashboard and interact with the core features.

Building a secure authentication flow is something that takes competent developers a few days to complete. You need to handle user registration, login/logout, password hashing, and session management just to make a working auth system.

Base44 does it all at lightning speed — and you don't even have to think about any of it.

Iteration 3: Adding Premium Features

RatePunk charges people for hotel bookings. So now let's have Base44 build out revenue-generating features:

After a few minutes, the new feature is done and working beautifully.

Using AI to Generate Feature Ideas

Here's a cool trick — open Operator and ask it to visit our hotel app and suggest features that would make it more similar to RatePunk. It listed out some great ideas, and the best one was a hotel listing and booking feature where we can charge verified users to list hotels after a verification process.

Implementing this feature is as simple as entering the instruction into Base44 and waiting a few minutes while it gets built.

Iteration 4: Performance and Security Audit

Nothing will destroy your hard work faster than an insecure app that freezes when people use it. Big software companies employ entire teams dedicated to these tasks.

Even if you don't have the budget, skill, or time to do this yourself, Base44 can perform this audit for you. Ask it to handle both tasks and generate detailed reports of what it found and fixed.

You can use the report to improve the performance of your app. For now, we'll release the app and add the features and fixes that users point out.

Building is 5% of the work. Marketing and customer support is 95% of the work.

Deploying the Web App

Base44 makes deploying incredibly easy:

  1. Click the Publish button
  2. Configure the URL in the dialogue box
  3. Click Manage to connect a custom domain or edit the built-in domain
  4. Click Publish App

Your app is now live on the internet. Anyone can visit the URL and start using the app immediately.

Converting to a Mobile App

We should also convert our web app into iOS and Android apps to get more users on the app stores.

Back in the publish window, the Mobile tab gives you the option to convert your web app into either an Android or iOS app.

Just like that — you have a fully functional web app and mobile apps for both iOS and Android, ready to generate revenue.

Marketing Playbook: Getting Your First Users

Let's look at what RatePunk is already doing. They lean heavily into content that shows real savings, simple demos of how the app works, and short-form videos explaining how people overpay for hotels. Their main strategy is creating social proof — and it's a very powerful positioning.

Step 1: Find Your Users on Social Media

Our users are people who travel, look for hotel deals, and hate overpaying. They're watching:

Step 2: Build a UGC Engine

Find UGC creators who are already famous on these platforms — people with 5,000 to 50,000 followers who have good camera presence and already talk about travel or money-saving apps.

Send them a DM:

"Hey, I built a hotel comparison app that helps users avoid overpaying. I'd love to give you premium access in exchange for a short demo video."

You're not paying for a video — you're giving out free access to select creators who will give you more users in return. Send enough DMs and eventually one will click. Then reinvest the revenue to pay for new creators.

Step 3: Collect and Distribute Content

Collect 10–20 of these videos and:

Now your app looks validated, proven, and used by many people.

Step 4: Build Shareable Moments Into the App

Create pop-ups like "You saved $187 compared to average booking prices" — then add a one-tap share button so users can share this to their friends and market the app for you.

Recap

We went from an idea to a live app with built-in monetization and a distribution plan. No team, no months of development, and no code. It's just execution from here.
